  • Wednesday, June 9th
  • Noon – 1:00 PM

Synchronous Classrooms (Pedagogical Use of Zoom)

Join faculty librarians Jennifer Snoek-Brown and Kathy Swart to learn about their experience using Open Pedagogy to support Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.  Swart will share her sabbatical research which relied on critical information literacy and open education to create assignments that amplify the voices of marginalized groups, counter misinformation, and engage students in helping faculty transition to OER.  Please visit “Assignments for Faculty – Centering Marginalized Groups” to view this amazing collection of assignments! Snoek-Brown will discuss her work with faculty and students on open pedagogy projects that integrate more inclusive OER images and multimedia.  During the final segment of the session participants will be invited to share about their open pedagogy ideas and projects.

What’s Your Connection? Storytelling, Social Injustice, and Qualitative Research

“What’s Your Connection? Storytelling, Social Injustice, and Qualitative Research” represents a deep dive into storytelling and the critical consumption of media and all forms of communication purporting to hold the truth of another, and to tell the “all” of another’s experience.

Join Virginia to learn how her storytelling assignment uses transformational experiential learning strategies to provide online students with critical foundations in sociology, a hands-on qualitative research experience from the perspective of both the researcher and the subject, and an opportunity for enhanced bonding and making personal connections in the online learning community.

During the webinar, Virginia will guide participants through a brief interactive activity to demonstrate how this assignment gives students a visceral experience that forever changes their perspective on media and social justice.
